Learning to say No to bad ideas

Recently I found myself out with a less experienced (in terms of running their own small business) designer asking questions over a few drinks the other night of which included “how do you keep your sanity with clients dictating your work?” Fortunately lately I have not had much of a problem since passion, understanding, knowledge, and good listening skills keep me, for the most part, in the clear with these situations. I wish I had this article by Whitney Hess available at the time of her question as she does a great job of summarizing and providing exceptional ideas to saying no to bad ideas while still holding on to the clients vision.

Also check out the other A List Apart article these week, Kick Ass Kickoff Meetings by Happy Cog’s Kevin Hoffman. Nice to see two articles this week from a client interaction stance.
