Vintage Posters: Inspiration for color palettes

Lately I’ve been looking at vintage and contemporary posters, illustrations and advertisements for inspiration, in particular at the bold, complementary color palettes used during that period. I even based my new blog, www.behoff.com’s, color palette and typography from a few vintage posters I came across.

The complimentary colors palettes, hand drawn typography, one-dimensional graphics, and the beautiful illustrations are quite intriguing to draw inspiration from so I’d thought I’d share a few that I’ve collected in recent months.

Below are 40+ vintage (or vintage-inspired) prints, illustrations and advertisements for your color and design inspiration:

Hate to be the voice of dissent but some of these are not really posters as they convey no information. For example: the last two.

  2. Rob says:

Where did the vintage sneaker poster come from? I’d like to contact the designer.

    Rob,
To be honest, many of these were screen shots I kept for my own inspiration and found most of them from other sources rather than artists sites. My apologies for not taking note of the artist.

  25. Hi Brian,

Are all of these litho-prints? It looks like most of them are. Its sad that most posters today are offsetprintet, rather than litho.

    Best regards
    /Jesper

  26. These are beautiful !

  27. Paige Halsey says:

What are the names of the artists who created these originally? I would love to buy a print of that “Work is Play. Play is Work.” poster but there isn’t a link to the original creator.
As a fellow artist, it’s pretty disturbing to see the reposting of artwork without credit being given to the artists. Is there any way for you to please fix this?
