I am also very, very surprised that Bringhurst didn’t make the list. Then again, Elements of Typographic Style is hailed as the Typography Bible, so perhaps it’s regarded as a given that people who want to learn will already have that one on the shelf.

Here’s a new one for your list if you like the ‘modern’ greats of Dutch type design – Dutch Type published by 010 Publishers in Holland, written by Jan Middendorp. It’s the only book I’ve bought which costs over £50 but boy is it worth it! As one reviewer writes “Buy it if you are a wealthy one or want to spoil one you know.”

I just gotta say, Bringhurst is such a blowhard. I own the book and find it unreadable. For being named similarly to Strunk & White – it reads nothing like it.

You shold really add ‘Elements of Typographic Style’ by Robert Bringhurst.
It seems to be the absolute reference out there.
You can find a free followup website focused on web typography here http://webtypography.net.
