16 Unveiled Logo Design Processes

As a logo designer I have always enjoyed seeing and reading the thought and creative processes of other graphic designers logos – from the project brief, to the initial sketches, right down to the final touches. Understanding how logo designers work and articulate their ideas is a great way to learn and expand our own creativity. More importantly, you understand to value the effort of the design process and appreciate the art of the logo design. Below are 16 logo processes unveiled by a few of my favorite colleagues, logo and graphic designers.

Very interesting post. Thank you. I’ll bookmark it.

  2. I love Vividways by Chris Spooner, in his process he makes it look so fabulously simple! Thanks for posting :-)

  3. Brian says:

    lgor,
Thanks for the bookmark. It’s really great to view other people creative processes isn’t it? I often find myself in creative struggles referring back to others creative process in order to get the creative juices flowing again. Thanks for the comment.

    Sneh,
Chris’s logo is indeed stellar! I enjoy how he even includes the Illustrator techniques as he shows you “technically” how to create the logo.

  4. Dave Aldrich says:

I appreciate seeing how other designers work through the research and conceptual process. The company I work for is going through a rebranding itself. I’m having fun being involved in it. Thanks for the Twitter shout on this. I’ve bookmarked it as well and will refer to it again.

  5. CJ Cipriano says:

Wow very nice, somewhat what i would love to do.

  6. krakow says:

great list of selection, thank you

  7. David Airey says:

    Hey Brian, how are you?

I particularly enjoyed Veerle’s process, but really anything with sketches will always catch my eye. It’s great to see the rougher, more raw side of a design project.

  9. Thanks for this great article. You should aslo add your own Design Process of the Design Cubicle’s logo, it would be a great addition.

  10. Brian says:

    David,
I’m doing great. Keeping busy, working hard and enjoying everything! How’s things with you?
Sketches are a great way to really dig deep into a designers mind and thought process. Personally, I cannot start designing without initially sketching. It helps get the creative juices going and allows me to promptly get ideas out on paper.
Thanks for the comment and hope all is well.

    Logofreestyle,
Might just have to do that ;) Thanks for the suggestion and glad you enjoyed this article as well as my logo design process for The Design Cubicle.

    Martin,
    Great resource. Thanks for sharing!

  11. David Airey says:

All good here, mate, though do you ever get the feeling when coming back from holiday that you should’ve stayed away? I got back on Friday, and my time since then has been pretty much all emails.

    Half way through.

  12. Brian says:

    David,
Good to hearing things are going well and that you enjoyed your vacation. Best of luck trudging through all those emails. :)

  13. T-Law says:

  20. [...] First of all, if you need a tutorial to teach you how to design your own design portfolio, you are in trouble. You may need ideas on what to say, how to style the CSS for some nice effect, or the latest JQuery technique you want to implement. But you CAN’T honestly say there is a tutorial on how to design your own portfolio. It is your page, your identity, your voice. Even if you’re a beginner, you should always focus not on reading tutorials that promise to give you a final product, but the ones that teach the techniques that will help you create your own. 24. The Vivid Ways logo has always intrigued me a bit. The accompanying tutorial showed me everything I needed to look under the hood. Thanks for the post. However, I would have liked tutorials on some of the more complicated logos out there.
